Kings Manor
This Halloween, something rather strange is happening at Kings Manor…
And for reasons that will almost certainly become apparent, we need Pony Club members to investigate.
This is a completely UNMOUNTED EVENT — no ponies required! Teams will head out on foot, following clues, solving puzzles and completing challenges inspired by some of the darker and more peculiar stories from Isle of Wight history.
There are two quests.
Choose carefully…
5PM — THE LESS SCARY QUEST
For younger members, families and those who feel Halloween should involve considerably more pumpkins and considerably fewer psychological consequences.
Expect spooky-but-silly challenges, mysteries, clues and Halloween fun as daylight begins to disappear.
There may be witches.
There may be ghosts.
There will probably be sweets.
Nobody is intentionally being traumatised at 5pm.
Probably.
7PM — THE SCARY QUEST
By 7pm it will be dark.
And this is where the committee’s safeguarding judgement becomes… more adventurous.
You’ll follow the same historic estate, but things will have changed.
The clues will be darker.
The stories will be grimmer.
The people you encounter may not be entirely helpful.
And occasionally you may become aware that something is following you.
You might hear things in the darkness.
You might see things that weren’t there a moment ago.
You may reach a point where going back feels considerably more appealing than finding the next clue.
Unfortunately, going back won’t help you.
Bring a torch.
Wear sensible shoes and warm/waterproof clothing.
Halloween dress strongly encouraged.
The 7pm quest is intended for older/braver members and will include deliberate scares and people whose sole purpose that evening is to make you regret booking it.
PARENTAL DISCLAIMER:
If you knowingly book your child onto something called THE SCARY QUEST, beginning after dark on Halloween, we feel the Pony Club has fulfilled its reasonable duty to alert you to the possibility that it may, in fact, be scary.
Complaints along the lines of “someone jumped out of a hedge and my child screamed” will therefore be treated as confirmation that the event was delivered successfully.
No ponies. No riding. Just history, clues, darkness…
…and whatever else is waiting at Kings Manor.
